In mid-February, tire repair workers Ozimar Queiroz and Lindomar Queiroz were startled upon arriving early to their shop on Estrada do Belmont, in Porto Velho’s North Zone. There, by the roadside, they discovered an abandoned dog. This gentle creature, small and with splayed paws, was unable to walk.
Touched by the dog’s predicament, Ozimar, also known as Galego, made the compassionate decision to provide care until a permanent home could be secured. Yet, despite their efforts, 20 days have elapsed, and the dog still awaits a forever family.
“They left him right in front of the shop. When we got here in the morning, there he was. We felt so sorry for him, so we brought him in and have been feeding him. But he remains in this tough spot. He can’t walk at all, as both his front legs are turned backward,” Ozimar recounts.
Affectionately dubbed Seal due to its position on the signboard and its inability to move because of splayed paws, the dog continues to hope for a brighter future.
The tire repairmen shift him around a few times during the day, but the dog finally ends up dragging himself in the mud to connect with the only animal company available, a stray cat that wanders about the tire shop.
Lindomar Queiroz told G1 that the dog is docile and in need of veterinary care, but he cannot afford it.
“We named him a seal, because of the way he appears. When we grabbed him, he was quite underweight, but he’s already becoming plump, since we’re feeding him. Due of the rain, he’s all muddy, but we can’t care here”, declares Lindomar.
Adoption
The abandoning of the dog garnered repercussion on social networks and Foca has already been adopted by a couple from Porto Velho.
The tire repair workers who found the pit bull on the road took care of him for almost three weeks, giving him food and water. They first christened him “Foca” until Michele took him in and changed his name permanently.
“ That was love at first sight . His predicament struck me a lot. Already helpless, much more so, so docile and kind. I fell in love with him,” stated the economics student. “I love him. I have no other term. I love him, very much. Mother’s feeling.”
