Over 50 shelter pets left overcrowded Louisiana shelters on National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and boarded a Flight to Freedom.
In the early morning hours of April 30th, staff and volunteers arrived at the airport to help the dogs and cats board the Good Flight headed to New Jersey.
The work to prep the pets for the flight started very early at St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter. The seven dogs from the shelter with tickets on the flight were treated to warm baths thanks to dedicated staff. They shared on Facebook, “Thank you to Ms. Vicki & Ms. Pam for bathing the pups & getting them perfect for their private flight EARLY this morning! Caylee & Brittany were our early risers today to get these pets home✈️. New Jersey, here they come! It was much needed, as an emergency call out last night filled our last run in the shelter. Stray & unwanted dogs doubled this month. If you need a leash or training help, please, reach out.”
The pets were taken from shelters who are over capacity and given a one-way ticket to the Garden State for a second chance to find a loving family.
This life-saving flight was possible due to your continued support. It takes a very large team to make these rescue missions a success and we thank you for your donations to help cover the cost of fuel to fly these pets to freedom.
The dogs and cats safely arrived in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon and were greeted by staff from receiving shelters.
Dogs like Babee, Annabelle, and Annie and countless more are eager to find their special someone.
Real Dog Rescue, a new receiving shelter, shared their experience on Facebook and wrote, “What an amazing day!! We got to be a part of an absolutely incredible life saving mission of over 50 cats and dogs through the @greatergoodcharities . We are beyond grateful for all of their efforts in saving homeless animals. Today we welcome 3 new awesome pups into our rescue. We cannot wait to find them their forever families! We are excited about this new relationship which will allow us to save even more dogs!”
Sweet Bailey is one of the dogs the rescue took in, so be sure to follow them on Facebook for updates.
St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center welcomed over a dozen dogs from the flight into their shelter. They shared the photos of the pups and told their followers to share to help the dogs find homes. Photos of the dogs arriving, including Babee, were shared with the update, “They are just settling in, but as we get to know them, we’ll share more information here and on our website soon.”
We couldn’t sponsor these monthly Good Flights (Flights to Freedom) without your support, so thank you!
Together, we are saving lives and helping dogs and cats find their happy endings. Sadly, there are thousands more at shelters waiting to be freed. Donate now towards May’s flight and help fly even more pets to safety. Just $5 helps cover the fuel costs of flying a pet 125 miles towards safety.
