Great news for feline lovers in the Emerald City: In order to celebrate Taylor Swift’s upcoming concerts in Seattle next weekend, the Seattle Animal Shelter is reducing adoption fees for adult cats to just $13 (normally $35-$75) — reportedly Swift’s favorite number — for one week beginning Tuesday.
According to Axios Seattle, as more cats continue to come in each week, every adoption frees up space for another kitty “to find their forever home and peacefully sleep on someone’s cardigan,” Jesse Gilliam, a spokesperson for the City of Seattle, explained.
Taylor Swift
Swift is a well-known feline lover and animal advocate who sent out Christmas cards featuring her three beloved cats — Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button — dressed up in Christmas hats in 2020.
Not shy about admitting the influence they have over her, her fans seem to embrace her all the more for it, and all three putty tats have made appearances on her social media platforms and made it into some of her music videos.
In 2019, she told TIME, “I have cats. I’m obsessed with them. I love my cats so much that when a role came up in a movie called Cats, I just thought, like, I gotta do this.” Swift reportedly even attended a “cat school” there on set to prepare for the gig.
Seattle Animal Shelter
While the shelter notes that adopters will still be on the hook for the license fee of their new furry companion, the cost for vaccinations, microchipping, registration, deworming, and neutering/spaying are included in the $13. That’s quite a deal.
To view the available felines they have up for adoption, potential pet pawrents can visit the Seattle Animal Shelter’s website to see who their next BFF could be (including dogs and other critters) and familiarize themselves with the rescue’s adoption process.
In order to receive the discount, you’ll need to tell shelter employees that you’re looking for “Taylor’s Version.” While there may be a secret word to get in on the deal, there’s no secret handshake, so don’t sweat it. The promotion ends on July 25.
Taylor Swift Concerts
“Taylor Swift is a cat lover, and we know many Swifties are, too,” explained Esteban Rodriguez, the shelter’s director, about the decision to hold the discounted adoption event. He added that the shelter is excited to help them start their “Love Story.”
Shelter Hours
The shelter is open for walk-ins 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday through Thursday, but by appointment only on Monday and Friday if you’re planning on going over there.
